If you’re not watching Adventure Time, you’re missing pretty much the greatest cartoon of all time. It’s a layered, emotional story inside this fun, goofy adventure fascade, so what you end up with is something that drags you in with easy entertainment but keeps you coming back with deep and complex relationships that are constantly mind-blowing. Got daddy issues? Always crushin’ on an unobtainable girl? Constantly distracted by existential abstract thoughts about the universe? Then Adventure Time is the show for you.
Oh, and here’s the rough.

Lucy Westenra has been portrayed in film in pretty much every variation possible. So when it came time to color her hair I didn’t have a cool reason to make her blonde or brunette. However, when I googled “hair color anemia” I found out that in some cases whatever excess chemicals making a person’s blood anemic will also cause their hair pigments to turn red. So ta-da, Lucy, whom the good doctors before Van Helsing declared anemic, has red hair.
Jason Segel is really hard for me to draw for some reason. I finally had to give this my close-enough stamp of approval before I wasted too much time trying to get it right. So here it is, Forgetting Sarah Marshall’s Dracula feeding on poor Lucy Westenra from Bram Stoker’s Dracula.

I am not not a Doctor Who fan, I just haven’t gotten around to watching the show. But I get it, I get people that get it. So when my friend commissioned this piece for his Doctor Who Reddit Gifts recipient I was up for the challenge. Just being a Redditor has taught me a surprising amount of Who facts.
Anyways, here’s the rough. I’d definitely like to do more geeky pin-ups. And, to LetThemGraduate (I really like this username), I’m happy with this one and had a blast drawing it. Happy Dr Who gift exchange day!

So last week Smashing Magazine commented that “almost every recently released website seems to incorporate parallax effect to some degree. It appears to be overused and awkward. Do you agree?” and so I set out find out more about this Parallax Effect. It was something I’d toyed with a few years ago, but then forgotten about, but as I read up on it I had this idea for a drawing and so made today’s post. Pardon the iframe, the css that makes this thing work was not jiving with the rest of my site.

Sidenote, this was meant to be my son Parker, but he did not think it looked anything like him so it’s just some random, fictional kid.

You know when your friend starts a blog and you’re like “oh that’s neat” and you go and read it in case they grill you about it later but then whoa it turns out to be pretty awesome? That is exactly what my friend Sarah McCall (of marriage to Brent McCall repute) is doing at The Baloney Bin. To mark her enthusiastic start, encourage her to persevere, and thank her for the shout out to Very Mint the other day, I drew her in chibi form posing with her pugs. It should be noted that her human form is super identical to her chibi form, so this was a very easy illustration.

Well, I don’t want to alarm you, but I’m a published comicist now. This is the page I made in the just released Professor Elemental comic. The good Professor contacted me to make this piece about a year ago, and we collaborated with a slew of other artists, not the least of which was our cover artist Mike Hawthorne.

The least of which was actually me, but from there we have the talented Owen Watts, the infallible Liam Byrne, and the surprisingly-fire-retardant James Feist. Together we have created what critics* are now calling the greatest comic book of all time.

Calm down though, no local retailers will be carrying this. Maybe Astro Kitty’s will have a few copies. Other than that I think we’re looking at a print-on-demand situation. Anyways, the general public is currently safe from its harmful UV rays.

*I’m legally obligated to admit that no critics know this comic exists, let alone rank it among even their top 1,000 greatest all-time comics.

So I was caught up in another rendition of making-doodles-until-I-like-one-enough-to-ink-and-color-it, and that’s how I wound up with this drawing of Thor. Ta-da! Special thanks to r/drawing for critiquing my rough draft.
